This week, we’re highlighting our iOS developer, Jonny Baird.
Read on to learn about how he changed career paths, what’s involved in his day-to-day and his one-word description of xDesign.
1. First things first! What is your role at xDesign and how long have you been with the company?
I am an iOS Developer, and have been with xDesign for nearly three years.
2. What’s your professional background & what led you here?
Prior to joining xDesign, I spent 10 years working as a Tech Recruiter, mostly in-house in a mix of companies from start-ups to global corporations. After making a career of hiring software engineers, I decided I wanted to become one instead!
I spent a year or so studying using Udemy courses and www.freecodecamp.org (great resource by the way!) alongside my day job. I didn’t start my career change properly until I joined xDesign, who supported my learning and gave me the opportunity to move into software development full-time.
3. What’s involved in your day-to-day role?
Every day is different. Usually I am solving problems for clients or building something new. I get a mixture of talking through problems and scenarios and then implementing solutions.
I have worked on a bunch of different apps for xDesign, including a newly released financial guidance app and most recently I’ve been working on an automation project to improve the developer experience.
4. What’s something you’re passionate about when it comes to your work?
I like solving problems, building things and seeing a fully functioning app appear as a result of our work.
